Coming out to your
healthcare provider can make people nervous and
uncomfortable, and unfortunately not every medical
professional is sensitive to LGBT people and understands our unique
healthcare needs and issues. In fact, the fear of how a doctor
will react intimidates some lesbians and bisexual women, preventing
them from disclosing their sexual orientation and impedes their access
to quality health care. Some seek out doctors who understand their
needs, but that can be a challenge, especially for those without
insurance.

The L.A. Gay
& Lesbian Center’s Audre Lorde Lesbian Health Program can
provide you with low-cost, culturally sensitive LGBT-friendly health
services, including: breast and cervical cancer screenings; STD
screenings and treatment; birth control; limited fertility testing; and
alternative insemination procedures.
Take a pro-active
role in your health care. Call and schedule a financial screening to
see if you qualify.
