Health care for lesbians and bisexual women

To get the best health care, you need more than just expert medical providers, you need to feel completely comfortable talking to your doctor about everything that can impact your health. You can do that at the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center, where you’ll never feel embarrassed or judged.

Did you know that, in general, lesbians:

  • Are more likely to have risk factors for breast cancer?
  • Have higher risks for certain types of gynecological cancers?
  • Have higher rates of dependence on alcohol and recreational drugs?
  • Are more likely to be overweight, contributing to heart issues?

When you meet with the Center’s medical providers, who include female physicians and nurses, we encourage you to speak openly and honestly about all risk factors—knowing that your confidentiality will be protected—so we can provide you the best care possible.

You also have the benefit of knowing that our providers all work together as one team and under one roof, so if you need counseling, your doctor can consult with a Center therapist about your situation, just as they can consult with Center pharmacists, nutritionists, and other relevant staff about your unique needs.

You’re never just a medical record number at the Center.
