Tongzhin-womenTongzhimen-web.jpg

Tongzhi is Mandarin for “comrade” or “same.”
But it’s also the colloquial way of saying “queer.”

In this case, Tongzhi bridges three worlds: artworks by homeless LGBT youth in China, artworks by homeless LGBT youth in our own Youth Center on Highland Ave., and photographs taken at the first ever China AIDS Walk—on the Great Wall! (The China AIDS Walk was founded by a graduate of the Center’s Chinese Emerging Leaders program.)

Though more than 6000 miles separate them, LGBT homeless youth in China and the USA share many of the same daily struggles. These hopeful and powerful pieces will inspire, delight and remind you that queer spirit knows no boundaries!

Come join us at an exciting reception on June 20 with our current group of interns from China and learn more about our Emerging Leaders program.
