The staff and volunteers of the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center’s Mental Health Services Department specialize in affordable psychotherapy for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community. We offer counseling in a safe and welcoming environment for people of all cultures,  ethnicities and sexual orientations.

Counselors include masters and doctoral-level staff (both licensed and license-eligible) and pre- and post-graduate masters and doctoral-level interns.  Psychiatric consultations may be available, based on a referral by one of our staff counselors.

Most therapy is short term, usually 26 sessions, but group treatment may go on for longer periods of time.

The most common issues for which people seek treatment are:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Relationship issues
  • HIV
  • Substance use, in particular, crystal meth
  • Domestic violence
