Jobless Find Support at Center
After years as a food server, James Deighton thought that was the only kind of work he could do. But when he came to the Center for assistance, his Career Center counselor helped him build his confidence and brainstorm new ideas.
“Some seniors buy that you ‘can’t teach an old dog new tricks,’” says Deighton, who got certified to drive a bus and landed a job with the City of West Hollywood. “But I’ve done something I didn’t think I could.”
An increasing number of job-seekers like Deighton are getting assistance through the Career Center and through the Center’s Transgender Economic Empowerment Project (TEEP), a job resource specifically for the trans community.
Offering services for job-seekers is one more way the Center—with diverse programs that empower LGBT people of various backgrounds, with varied needs—helps the community thrive in the face of adversity.
Looking for a job? Learn useful skills, write a better resume and land a job with an LGBT-friendly employer with help from a volunteer counselor at the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center’s Career Center.
Whether you’re just entering the work force or changing your career, we can help you walk into your next interview well-prepared. While you’re at The Village to meet with your career counselor, check our job postings to see if any might be a match.
