The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center’s Seniors Services Department was created to enrich the lives of LGBT people 50 years and older through educational, social and cultural events and activities.  Because so many LGBT seniors remain in the closet, they often feel isolated and lonely. The Seniors Services Department provides a safe and nurturing environment for this overlooked group. Offering nearly 50 events/ activities each month-- all of them free or low-cost--the Seniors Services Department helps those who have little connection to their family find a community. The department also connects seniors with other Center services such as counseling, support groups, HIV testing and medical care, legal services, self-enrichment courses, the Internet cyber center and more. Additionally, the department advocates for LGBT seniors through partnerships with other senior service providers. With this wide array of services, the Center helps LGBT seniors live healthier, happier lives. Services and Activities include: Monthly case manager visits Men’s and women’s support groups Caregiver support groups Legal services Mental health counseling Social service referrals Internet cyber center Weekly exercise, writing, computer and art classes HIV/AIDS testing and medical care HIV Over 50 group Monthly dinners Cultural excursions (such as theater, opera, museums, gardens, etc.) Women’s socials Annual senior prom Self-enrichment courses/workshops Holiday party Art fair The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center's Seniors Services Department welcomes all seniors regardless of financial need, sexual orientation or gender identity. No one will be denied services.
